Steps to making your dream a reality that can be actioned straight away
What makes you happy? Do you enjoy being in the water or out in the wilderness learning about wildlife? Maybe you want to want to travel the world and embrace different cultures or start a sushi restaurant. There are so many examples of different dreams that people aspire to, but they all have limiting beliefs that they can’t achieve them. While it may be true that you can’t just switch up your life and do something you love straight away there are steps you can take to help you transition into the life you really want. People all over the world are doing it, there is no reason why you can’t, yes they may have different circumstances and yes it may have been easier for them to do that but so can you. No excuses! Everyone has their own story to tell as to how they got to where they are. Your own personal story is yours to write so make it a good one.

“Do not wait; The time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand and work with whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.”

George Herbert

When you hear the extremely successful entrepreneurs and visionaries talk about themselves, their companies and products they will almost always say that they never did it for the money. They did it for the passion and burning desire they felt inside, the difference being is that money is great, but it is not fulfilling at all – if you were unhappy before you made money you will be afterward too (not to say crying in a Lamborghini is as bad as crying in the back of a bus, it definitely isn’t). Doing what you love day in and day out is the only way to truly feel satisfied. Let’s look at some of the steps you can use starting from today to make your dreams a reality.

Try to revolve as much of your life around your dream as possible
This sounds easier said than done, if you want to start your own after school tutoring school but you live in the countryside and work in a Warehouse on the outskirts of the city this will be quite hard. However, where there is a will there is a way, for this example, one could find different forums on the internet and see what all is required, certificates etc. There are also many different websites that offer tutoring services over the internet with skype sessions and so on and that could be a great way to build your client list before obtaining a premises etc.

This example may not appeal to you so let’s take look at another, what if you love a sport but are in your late 40’s? Playing many professional sports at this age would be very difficult, not impossible though! There are a few exceptions to this rule of course. Let us take the example of Football, at 40 there is a slim chance of getting paid to play, but what you can do is start a school that coaches young aspiring footballers or start a company that takes school teams to play in different countries. This idea is actually brilliant because you just need to make the connections by visiting schools and then create a package that suits both parties and makes you a tidy profit on top. This would mean you could spend your time being around football, playing football and travelling the world! How amazing is that?! I have a friend that is doing this currently and absolutely loves it as he is being a positive influence on youngsters, keeping them out of trouble and focused on being fit and healthy as well as following his passion.

The point here is, you do your research on whatever your dream is, go along to trade shows/expos and get to know the industry, make some friends along the way for advice. This is also a great way to build relationships and really immersive yourself in your dream as you can get first hand knowledge on how they got to where they are.

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.”

Earl Nightingale

Commit to your dream and carve out time for it
Your dream needs to be nurtured to make it a reality. This means thinking about it whenever you get a moment, I know this little thing may sound insignificant but people have come up with the most brilliant ideas while in the shower thinking about whatever it is that has been consuming their mind. Even if it is just half an hour at the end of every day where you can do some research or reading on topics that will help you move forward or give you ideas when you get stuck.

Once this becomes a habit it will be second nature and the best thing about this is you will love it, when you are working on your dream in the middle of the night you won’t care because it is what you always wanted. Set to do lists that need to be completed by the end of each week and commit to completing them. As you work your way through it you will be getting closer and closer to your goal.

One thing that will keep creeping up everywhere on GSY is to ‘always be the hardest worker you know’ and that means you must be willing to go that extra mile. This is for you after all and if you are balancing working towards your dream alongside a job and other daily responsibilities like family etc then you will have to be working extra hard. It is always recommended to keep your primary income when starting something new just so there is no added stress of how bills will be paid and all other basic needs, food, home etc.

Invest your time, emotions and your money in your dream
If you are constantly thinking about your dream all day everyday and working on it into the early hours of the morning it is safe to say that you are emotionally invested in it, which is great. Now it is time to take the next step and that is to invest your money into it. Why is this so important? Well this will help cement your commitment to your goal, once you are financially invested in your goal it will give your reasoning for working hard and it will have more leverage over you. This may sound quite daunting but it really isn’t, all it means is that you are fully invested in it and it will give you the best chance to make it happen.

The most important thing when spending money on anything is to take emotion completely out of it, think of ROI and if you really need it. There will come a time when you can spend whatever you like but in the beginning keep it simple and focus on growing your customer base and audience, whatever you need for those two things, focus on that and nothing more.

Seek advice from other successful people
This doesn’t have to be someone that is in your field, or anything to do with what kind of market you are aiming at. Everyone has their own story and anyone that has achieved success will always have great hints and tips that you could incorporate into your own plan. It would be ideal if you could find someone in your own field who could guide you and you could then learn from their mistakes. This is the key part of networking, learn from others and ask about the challenges they faced so you know what to expect and you can prepare yourself to handle it.

We all deserve to live our dream, we weren’t born to work dreary 9-5’s and live paycheck to paycheck letting life pass us by. Start working on your dream from now. GSY
