We have all heard that saying, ‘hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard’. I truly believe that’s the case (among millions of others), the world is filled with average people from average backgrounds who have elevated their success to levels that boggle the mind. There are also success stories of homeless people from very difficult, tough backgrounds who have become so successful, some have affected millions of lives and created jobs all over the world. Then you look at the other side, lots of talent with nothing to show for it, such a shame.

If you want to go out and do something but you feel you do not have the expertise or talent to do so, fear not, as we will look at the ways your obsession can overcome any obstacle life throws in your way.

Your mind is your greatest asset
There will always be 101 excuses as to why you can’t do something, your mindset will determine whether you push for it anyway. If you remember that you can do anything you put your mind to and become obsessed with doing your best you will always be winning. There will be failures, all this means is that you’re doing something you’ve not done before, fail forward, learn from it and keep going.

Obsession starts in the mind, you think about it all the time, when you eat, as you wake up, go to sleep and all the hours in-between. When you are thinking about all those before you that are so successful and you see them indulging in their obsession day after day you need to remember that no one is born with it, it is something we all become from within and it all starts in the mind.

It is human nature to feel negative feelings, be it anger, regret or sorrow. These feelings hold you back from moving forward, you should realise when you feel down or negative and change to positive thoughts. It will be a constant battle at first because there are so many things in the world that bring your mood down and make you feel horrible, from heartbreaking news stories, to death of loved ones and even something as small as unexpected fines. There is however one foolproof way to flip your negative thoughts around straight away, just think to yourself, no matter what situation you’re in, the only thing you can control is how you react and feel toward it. You are choosing to let it bother you and bring you down, at the same time you can choose to ignore it. Remember that.

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”

Charles R. Swindoll

Take the emotion out of decisions
How many times have you made bad decisions because of the way you felt? I could count but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to remember the countless times I did something stupid because of the way I felt. This goes for good things and bad things, by good things I mean you buy that flashy car on finance (which is actually a bad thing) and by bad things I mean you say something you don’t really mean to a loved one or lash out at someone that really doesn’t deserve it. These are both examples of doing something and making a decision based on emotions. We go out and buy that car we can’t really afford because it will make you feel good in the interim, you may be able to afford the monthly costs of it, but you have little to no savings and live paycheck to paycheck. When taking emotion out of that kind of decision you will see that having that car isn’t really that important right now, building up your assets and living within your means while you build wealth is what will give you real satisfaction.

“Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”

Will Smith

When doing something difficult, there will be times you don’t feel so great, it will wear you down but you need to ignore those feelings and keep going. Prepare yourself from the very beginning, you know you will be in this for the long haul and through all the roadblocks, you will persist.

Be the hardest worker you know
There must be people you know or have heard of that get praised for their work ethic, they may be builders, personal trainers, lawyers, doctors, plumbers or even teachers. There are people in all professions that give 110% every day all day, you need to become that person. No matter what you do, always be the hardest worker in the room. It may not make a difference on that particular day you start putting your all in, may not make a difference for a week or a month but sooner or later you will see the difference in the results. Work hard and work smart, try to work in a sector you love so being obsessed truly fulfills you and you will see how your state of mind skyrockets, as will your performance.

At GSY we want you to be successful and we truly believe that you can be, regardless of your talent or background. You just need to want it bad enough. Be obsessed, work hard on yourself and your passion. Never give up.

Become obsessed to the point you don’t allow anything to come in your way, talented or not you will smash your goals. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. GSY
